different but same same. February 20, 2009

some of us are retro-ish brown papers.

some of us have made many mistakes and are crumpled.     crumpled

some of us are beautiful like made-with-love papers

made-with-love

some of us are simply….toilet paper.

papers come in all shapes and sizes,

different designs and patterns.

whats the same thing about them?

they come from the same roots.

not exactly very pretty.

we hear ourselves say,

” i can’t stand her being so boastful about every good thing she has, must she be so desperate about letting others know whats good about her?!”

and then, we find ourselves quietly accomplishing many things, hoping to be recognized, and sulk silently when no one seems to applaud our efforts, no one seems to be bothered about the good we have done.

loud vs quiet.

they are simply two different ways that reveal the same root….

insecurity.

sometimes we find it so easy to criticise others for seemingly ugly things portrayed,

and we realized that those are just different ways to manifest the same few desires that in fact,

we all have.

to be loved,

to be recognized,

to be secure,

to be strong.

perhaps now we find that we are in no position to criticise and judge,

if not we’re simply making loud our own ugly sinful carnal desires we always think others have it more.

some people look pretty and perfect,

thats just that they know how to doll themselves up,

to be made-with-love papers,

hiding their roots, not worth our jealousy.

maybe in this way,

we all can be so much more undertanding,

so much more tolerant,

so much more gentle,

and have so much more fun laughing at the silly things we ALL think and do.

so as for me, being the lowest of all papers…(toilet roll?)

shall be happy and contented with the packaging given to me,

and know that we all have the same root issues,

just packaged differently.

and believe it or not?

the world needs toilet papers.

Hi, I stumbled on this blog while searching for images of old papers.
Then I feel so lucky now that I found this blog and got to read such
poetry. I’m teaching English language in South Korea and
I think I am going to use some of the words you used to my students.
    They are really meaningful.
